Walking in Cowra to help the less fortunate

Recently, students at St Raphael’s Catholic School in Cowra, NSW were given a task to 'try and change the world and make it a better place'. Jessica Meyers, a Year 8 student, put her body and mind into action and held a 20km Caritas K's walk for Project Compassion to help alleviate global poverty.

Jessica set a goal of raising $1000 for Caritas Australia's Project Compassion appeal. With only a week and a half to fundraise and ask for sponsors, she doorknocked at local businesses every afternoon and emailed all of her contacts asking for sponsorship. Fr Laurie Beath, the priest at her local parish, also allowed Jessica to speak at mass to encourage sponsors. For her incredible efforts, Jessica more than doubled her goal and raised $2310.25!

Jessica emailed us at Caritas Australia to let us know of her tremendous fundraising efforts.

"I am very happy to say that with the support of so many, not only did I reach my goal but doubled it. I raised $2310.25 - I hope this money will help many well-deserving people who are less fortunate than me...Thank you for everything you do to help others, it has made me extremely happy knowing together we are helping those less fortunate."
