Project Compassion begins @ St Bernardine's

At St Bernardine’s we have a proud history of giving generously to the Caritas Appeal. This appeal goes for the forty days of Lent and is focused not just on raising money but also on increasing the awareness of what Caritas does in Australia and other parts of the world. In past years we have transformed a village through puzzle pieces, and have bought over fifty pigs. The money raised by the school assisted a number of the Caritas programs. This year the symbols we are using, link to the needs of Teopista, a young woman living in the war torn country of Uganda. Our hope is that every class in the school will donate enough money so that they can assist in developing a sustainable farm. These farms provide not only food for the people of Uganda to eat but also assist them in providing an education for the children in the family.

To achieve this we have set goals as a class:
when a class raises $10.00, they will be given a hoe;
when they raise another $20.00, they will be given an image of seeds;
another $10.00 will purchase an image of training;
a further $20.00 will acquire an image of compost;
If they can then still raise another $20.00, they will be given an image of mulch;
and a final $20.00 will see the class be given ‘water’.

If they are able to raise the full $100 the class will be given a certificate to say that they are the proud owners of a sustainable farm.
I look forward to seeing our classes working together to raise their necessary funds.
