This week Caritas Australia brought a mini-Blueprint for a Better World Exhibition to the Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) National Congress in Adelaide.
More than 300 local government managers and elected representatives had the opportunity to learn about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and how their own Councils could support the MDGs.
“We had a strong interest from right around Australia and even a delegate from Vanuatu,” says Campaign Editor Jennifer Shedden.
“Port Augusta City Council has already declared their community’s commitment to the MDGs by hanging a ‘Stop Global Poverty’ road sign. We’ve also gain a lot of interest in organising training for local Council staff on effective development.”
One of the key note speakers, former federal politician Cheryl Kernot, encouraged delegates to forge new relationships with the non-profit sector.
Caritas Australia is hoping to get local Councils to commit to supporting sustainable development projects through accredited non-government organisations.
