International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Tomorrow, Saturday 3 December, is the UN recognised International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The theme for 2011 is:

Together for a better world for all: including persons with disabilities in development

Fact: 450 million out of the 600 million people with a disability live in a developing country.

Fact: 20% of people living in poverty suffer from a disability.

Fact: 150 million children live with a disability and subsequently face reduced access to schools, health care, recreation and opportunities for work.

But you can help. Caritas Australia believes that disability is both a cause and a consequence of poverty and we view disability as a cross-cutting issue important to all our projects.

Find out more or donate online – you can make change happen.

With your help, Bach, from Project Compassion 2011,
is now able to support his family. He takes part
in a program that supports disabled people
in the Vietnamese province of Hue.
