Wodonga parishioners enjoy their first Caritas Café experience!

What's the tastiest way to take part in Project Compassion? Hold a Caritas Cafe and feast on delicious treats from around the world!

Wodonga parishioners did just that by holding a Caritas Cafe after their morning mass at Sacred Heart church.

The Parish’s Caritas/Social Justice Team invited parishioners to prepare a simple recipe from the six countries profiled throughout the 2011 Project Compassion campaign: rice doughnuts from Nepal, bisamuni (warm samosas) from the Democratic Republic of Congo, potato salad from Bolivia, vegetarian spring rolls from Vietnam, coconut buns from Samoa and cinnamon, macadamia & sultana muffins from our Indigenous community.

The narthex was decorated with artifacts from various countries and some parishioners even dressed up in traditional dress for the occasion.

Around 60 parishioners enjoyed the international morning tea and donated over $200 to Project Compassion. There was a lovely “buzz” - lots of conversation and interest in the food and the country of origin. A couple of older parishioners even asked for recipes after enjoying the food so much!
