A Vision for Life: Caritas art prize

Each year The Angelico Exhibition invites students from Catholic Schools in WA to exhibit their visual arts. The 2009 Caritas award was themed "A Vision for Life". Jodie Whitby from Prendiville Catholic College won the award with her piece entitled "Child Soldiers".

“As Catholic students in a western society, we are nurtured, protected and loved," says Jodie. "We feel all opportunities are presented to us as a right. What can we do to change the lives of desperate young people who know only violence, horror, degradation and an inescapable sense of terror for their future? In the words of Sr Mary Mackillop 'Never see a need without trying to do something about it....' The arrangement of the painting suggests a cross which reminds us of our duty and moral obligation as Christians to extend our hands to those in need."
